To set up the alt.support.sleep-disorder newsgroup in Outlook Express, follow the instructions below.

  1. Select the Accounts option from the Tools menu

  2. Select the News tab and then click Add, and select News

  3. Enter the name you would like to appear with your posts, click next and add your email address (you may wish to put in a bogus email address to avoid issues associated with spam, but bare in mind if you do this people won't be able to reply to you "off list" (meaning that if there is a sensitive issue being discussed someone may want to reply to you without letting the whole newsgroup see the message)

  4. Enter your ISP (or other) news server name. If you're not sure what this is, please contact your ISP or relevant service provider.

  5. Once you have completed this information, close the dialog box. Once you have done this you will be asked if you want to download the newsgroups from the news account you added, select Yes

  6. The next process may take a long time.... ten minutes or more so go and make yourself a coffee while you wait! Once all the newsgroups have been retrieved, you need to find the newsgroup you want to subscribe to, in this case alt.support.sleep-disorder - you should be able to find it easily by typing the word "sleep" into the search box as shown below. Once you have found it, select the newsgroup and click Subscribe

  7. Now you're done, the once you click on the newsgroup, you'll get the most recent 500 or so messages.

You may wish to adjust some settings, such as "mark all messages as read when leaving the newsgroup" this will mean that next time you access the newsgroup, you'll be able to tell which messages are new. Personally, i find this feature very useful.

You can do this through the Tools menu, then go to Options.
